Hello everyone, firstly I would like to thank both my grandparents Arfon and Audrey for the love I have for animals.
Originally from New Plymouth, most of my days were spent horse riding with the disabled as well as visiting lots of zoos and farms. I also grew up on a farm looking after horses, cows, variety of birds, cats, dogs and even tropical fish.
I travelled to Fiji where I visited the SPCA in Suva where I donated food and money. One day I will head back and volunteer with my daughter.
I still had the desire that I needed to do more, so with hard work and integrity I graduated a NZQA certificate in Vet nursing level 5.
I'm honoured now to be given the opportunity to be apart of an amazing team at SmartVets. I  can now offer more to help our furry or feathered friends. It's very rewarding to be greeted daily with a tail wag and a mouth full of teeth smiling back at you and of course the odd kiss doesn't go a miss. It's always a pleasure to also bond with the owners and share the same passion.
In my spare time I enjoy swimming, zumba, yoga and spending quality time with my beautiful daughter Harper, and my handsome dog V8.
I look forward to meeting you all very soon.

Jacinda Sharp (JAZ),  Vet nurse

Janelle was born and bred right here in the beautiful Bay of Plenty. She attended local schools and studied at Toi Ohomai in 2017 to gain her Veterinary Nursing Assistant certificate. Janelle is currently working part time at Smart Vets while she continues to study in Hamilton to achieve her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

Janelle knew from a young age that she loved animals but growing up only ever had one cat and two goldfish. She volunteered at the Tauranga SPCA where she got to meet many gorgeous rescue cats and dogs. It was when Janelle got a job on a rescue goat farm that she realized her passion for working with large animals too. Smart Vets is a mixed animal practice which means Janelle gets the best of both worlds!

Janelle loves to travel and experience different cultures. She has travelled to over 16 different countries across Europe, the UK and the South Pacific. One day Janelle hopes to return to the UK and Europe to work as a Veterinary Nurse abroad.

Janelle Kerslake, Vet nurse

Jaz is originally from South Africa where she grew up on a dry stock farm with her big family who bred Rottweiler’s and German Shepherds.

She then went on to start horse riding at the age of 7 years old. With her veterinary experience starting at the age of 12 where she volunteered at a PDSA(Poor Dispensary for Sick Animals)in Cape Town, this organization was in a very rough area and most of the animals were strays and abuse cases, Jaz started as a kennel assistant and by the age of 16 was a veterinary nurse assistant.

In 2010 Jaz moved to New Zealand, upon arrival she was involved with Riding for the Disabled and horse rehabilitation in Auckland.  She worked on a dry stock farm in the Waikato for a year and was also highly involved in breaking in horses and horse riding camps,  Jaz went on to study Vet Nursing in Auckland soon after. Before and while studying Jaz worked as a riding instructor and boarding kennel assistant, where she was also highly involved in dog rescue and chained dog rescue.

As a qualified nurse Jaz has experience in a variety of animals in and out of a clinical scene this includes Rabbits, Rats + Mice, Lizards, Birds, goats and all farm animals.

Jaz has a funny farm of her own which includes Two dogs (Huntaway + Siberian Husky), 4 Cats, 12 chickens+ quills and a pair of beautiful Orpington ducks.
